In the first week we were challenged to create a character, so I created a balloon thief themed character known as balloon bandit. this character is designed entirely around balloons, from the balloons he’s holding to the balloons on his bandana and knife.
Inspiration
For the actual shape and design of the character i was heavily inspired by characters like Kirby, Jigglypuff and other characters that look cute and are generally spherical shape, I decided however that instead of the cute looking character being nice and cuddly I would turn him into a villain that although a small thing would steal balloons to stick with the comedic and small theme of the character.
This character was simple to design and took very little adjustment as I started off this task with an idea in mind, I then used photoshop to recreate my idea as best I could, the main noticeable changes are that I added more to the design of the bandana, I added a knife to the character’s hand and I also gave him a top hat, I did these because for a bandit the character did not look as if they were a thief so I added a knife, however the knife did not fit with the rest of the piece, so to try and make it look more connected I added a balloon keychain, for the design on the bandana I added more balloons because they were oddly spaced and the empty space in the middle looked too plain, I gave him a top hat as I felt that the top of his head looked too plain.
